Spun Silk

Spun silk threads are smooth but less lustrous than reeled silk, and not as effective or elastic. Spun silk cloth after wearing appears to become soft, as the thread is made of a thin staple. Spun silk is less expensive than reeled silk. Although spun silk has less intensity and elasticity than reeled silk due to the shorter staple used, it possesses all the general features of reeled silk. Silk fabric made from spun silk yet provides excellent service when the fibre quality is superior. Spun silk is used for pile fabrics, elastic webbing, sewing silk and summer wearing silks.
